Bad news for four-states Modified pilots: Justin "Whitey" Folk got his groove back. Most didn't even know he was struggling with chassis set up, but before Sunday's Dewaine Whitworth Memorial at Humboldt Speedway, Folk was telling the usual group of bench racers that he had finally figured out what he was doing wrong. Evidently, he was right.
Justin “Whitey” Folk lost a squeaker last week at the Humbolddt Speedway, and was really on a mission this Friday as he left the balance of the USRA Modified field in the dust. Folk took command on lap 1 and drove like he was on rails.
About the only thing tighter than the national economy was Sunday night's (yes, Sunday) USRA Modified feature at Humboldt Speedway. After a couple of torrential downpours and a storm scare Friday night, Ron Whitworth and crew busted butt to run a Sunday night show.
No one was going to catch Jess Folk Jr. this week. The man was absolutely on a set of rails as he claimed the USRA Modified main event Friday night at the Humboldt Speedway.
Jess Folk Jr. started the USRA Modified feature from inside the third row, picked his line and worked his way steadily forward to win the feature Friday night at the Humboldt Speedway.
Two weeks ago at the Humboldt Speedway, Jess Folk Jr. topped his brother Justin Folk in the USRA Modified main event. Friday night was payback as "Whitey" held off Jessy Willard and "Junior" to take the feature race at The Hummer.
Jess Folk Jr. topped the USRA Modified class as American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series action resumed Saturday night at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan.
Last weekend was tough on USRA Modified ace Johnny Allen, but he returned to "The Hummer" high banks this weekend apparently unfazed, holding off the Folk brothers, Jess Jr. and "Whitey." respectively, for the feature win.
Promoters Ron and Rhenda Whitworth have been slowly, but surely, making Humboldt Speedway a better place to race. Since taking ownership of the speedway, fans and drivers have witnessed many improvements each year.
In what may be a first in organized racing, three of the four drivers that captured the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series titles in 2007 repeated the feat in 2008. Brad Waits captured his second straight USRA Modified crown, while the same can be said for Tom Schmitt (USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars) and Matt Jones (USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods). Jason McDaniel (USRA Hobby Stocks) won his first title after finishing second last year.
Congratulations to Jess Folk Jr., the Humboldt Speedway's 2008 USRA Modified track champions, and, a "well done" to all who participated in the 21 races held this season. The top-10 drivers in each class, plus those with perfect attendence, will be honored at the banquet to be held at the Outlaws Steak House on Oct. 17.
The irresistible force that is Justin "Whitey" Folk continues at Humboldt Speedway, as the man scored another USRA Modified feature win Friday night.
