Turner wins, Williams collects Championship at I-35

WINSTON, Mo. (October 19, 2025) — Championship pressure hung thick over I-35 Speedway as the USRA Heartland Modified Tour wrapped up its 2025 campaign with a single deciding night after Friday’s opener was washed out by rain. Just 25 points separated the top three in the standings entering the finale, with Bobby Williams leading Brandon Givens by just four points, and race winner hopeful Shadren Turner another 21 markers back, setting the stage for the tightest title fight in series young history.

When the green flag waved, USRA National Points Champion and local I-35 standout Houston Johnson surged from the outside pole and took command early. Williams rode inside the top five, doing exactly what he needed to maintain his title edge, while Turner and Givens clawed for every position behind him. Just past the 10-lap mark, disaster struck when Givens’ 10B machine suddenly snapped around in turn one, later reported as a tire failure that sent his championship hopes spinning to a halt.

Johnson led the field back to green with Turner in pursuit and Williams still in control of the title picture, but the tone of the race shifted again inside the final ten laps when a late caution bunched the field. On the restart, Turner made his move, throwing his No. 56 Skyrocket deep into turn one to challenge Johnson. A couple of laps later, Johnson’s car broke while leading, handing the race to Turner and tightening the points picture even further.

From there, Turner drove away to score his fifth tour win of the season, but Williams’ podium finish was enough to secure the 2025 USRA Heartland Modified Tour Championship. When the checkers fell, Williams topped the standings with 1659 points, followed by Turner at 1643 (-16), Givens at 1626 (-33), Wyatt Gaggero at 1611 (-48), and Dustin Hodges completing the top five at 1507 (-152).

Race winner Shadren Turner said in victory lane, “I don't know if the 97 changed lines or what happened, I just figured my best shot was if I could get up beside him and I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I have a lot of friends and family here tonight so this is pretty cool. Congrats to Bobby on the Championship. We raced B-Mods a lot together and both have Skyrockets so it’s pretty cool!”

Newly crowned champion Bobby Williams added, “This is what being real consistent gets you right here. This is the second time in my career I've done this... won a championship without winning a regular season race. I really want a race win and maybe we can still get one before the end of our season here, but congrats to Shadren. He drove a hell of a race, and we race with a lot of really good guys so hats off to them. Thank you to everyone who helps me on this thing!”

With the checkered flag on the 2025 USRA Heartland Modified Tour season, the series closes out a dramatic championship battle, and eyes now turn toward 2026, where a returning field of proven contenders and hungry new challengers are already loading up to write the next chapter.
