Turner Tames Lake Ozark for Third Win of the Season
ELDON, Mo. (September 1, 2025) - After opening the season’s first three races with a pair of runner-up finishes at Humboldt and a victory at I-35, it looked like all systems were go for Shadren Turner’s rookie campaign on the Heartland Modified Tour. But a string of bad luck and mechanical woes through the early summer left the team searching for answers and wondering what if. They broke through with a July 4th win at Central Missouri Speedway, and on Sunday night Turner showed there are no more doubts, leading all 30 laps at Lake Ozark Speedway to secure his third win of the season.
Turner was in control from the drop of the green, but it wasn’t without challenges. Bobby Williams applied pressure multiple times through the middle stages of the feature, but could never find a way past. A late-race restart shook things up as Trevor Hughes slipped by Williams to claim the runner-up spot, while Williams settled for third.
Championship contenders Brandon Givens and Wyatt Gaggero both kept their title hopes alive, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. The preferred groove around the Eldon, Missouri oval was on the bottom, but both Lance Mari and Tyler Davis thrilled the crowd by charging forward against a treacherous cushion on the extreme top side. Mari was closing on a top-three finish before mechanical issues ended his run with two laps to go, while Davis hung tough up high and nearly broke into the top five before crossing the line in eighth.
Austin McCarl won the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprints feature ahead of Scotty Thiel in second and Hank Davis in third, while Joe B. Miller finished fourth and Ayrton Gennetten completed the top five. In the Wholesale Batteries, Inc. POWRi WAR/Midwest Wingless Racing Association Challenge Series main event, Wesley Smith took the win with Samuel Wagner in second and Wyatt Burks in third, followed by Jack Wagner in fourth and Riley Kreisel in fifth.
With just four races remaining, the Heartland Modified Tour championship battle remains tightly contested. Bobby Williams continues to lead the standings, with Brandon Givens and Wyatt Gaggero within striking distance, while Turner’s third victory of the season has vaulted him back into the mix.
Up next: The Heartland Modified Tour makes its way to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, on Friday, September 19, followed the very next night by the Dalice Franz Memorial at 81 Speedway near Wichita, KS.
