Weekend at the Lake up next for HMT

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (August 26, 2025) — A massive weekend of racing is set for Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, as the USRA Heartland Modified Tour joins forces with the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprints and the Wholesale Batteries Inc. POWRi WAR/Midwest Wingless Racing Association Challenge Series for two action-packed nights on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31.

For the HMT, the spotlight will shine brightest during Saturday night’s Jason Russell Memorial, a 32-lap A-Main paying $3,002 to win and $450 to start in honor of the late modified and late model racer. The event features increased purse money throughout the program, with heat race payouts and special awards including hard charger and hard luck.

Susan Russell, Jason’s mother, emphasized the importance of the event:

“It’s going to be a great show!! The entire payout is increased, heat race payout, hard luck, hard charger, plus some other surprises for the drivers and fans!! There will be a raffle and silent auction for some great prizes, Memorial T-Shirts will be for sale, and all of the proceeds benefit the Jason Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund. We awarded three $1,000 scholarships in 2025 and have awarded a total of $7,000 in scholarships to date. We are honored to have the USRA Heartland Modified Tour racing in Jason’s memory this year.”

The tour returns Sunday for another big-money program with a 30-lap A-Main paying $2,000 to win and $350 to start. All eyes are on a tight championship points battle, as four drivers come into Lake Ozark separated by just 24 points. Hermitage, Missouri’s Bobby Williams holds the slimmest of margins but is still chasing his first series win. Brandon Givens, from Goddard, Kansas, is the most recent tour winner at Nevada Speedway and sits just three points back, while Mt. Hope, Kansas driver Tad Davis lurks just four points out of the lead. Wichita’s Wyatt Gaggero is 24 points back in fourth, keeping the title fight wide open heading into the weekend.

For Williams, he’s focused on keeping things simple:

“I don’t pay attention to the points. I know if I go out and win races the points will take care of themselves. We haven’t done that yet, and if we can do that we should be just fine.”

The weekend will also showcase the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprints, where their own championship battle is nearly as close. Versailles, Missouri’s Ayrton Gennetten leads by just ten points over Millersville’s Joe B. Miller. Both drivers have been models of consistency, with Miller tallying two wins to Gennetten’s one, but Gennetten’s edge in top-10s has him clinging to the top spot as the season winds down.

Adding to the mix is the Wholesale Batteries, Inc. POWRi WAR/Midwest Wingless Racing Association Challenge Series.  Wyatt Burks of Topeka, KS will be one to watch in the non-wing portion of the program.  He leads the MWRA season points standings, and sits just 50 points behind Lone Jack, Missouri’s Jack Wagner in the POWRi WAR title chase.

With the Jason Russell Memorial, three major championship battles, and three of the region’s premier divisions on the same card, Lake Ozark Speedway is set for one of its biggest weekends of the year!
