A First for Givens at Nevada

NEVADA, Mo. (August 17, 2025)  —  The USRA Heartland Modified Tour made its annual stop at Nevada Speedway on Saturday night, August 16, and it was a night to remember for Brandon Givens, who scored his first career series victory in front of a healthy crowd at the historic southwest Missouri oval.

The 30-lap Wehrs Machine A Feature began with Bobby Williams on the pole after earning quick time honors in qualifying earlier in the evening. Williams, who has turned countless laps at Nevada over the years in the B-Mod division before moving into the A-Mod ranks this season, looked comfortable out front in the early laps with Shadren Turner giving chase. Behind them, a spirited battle developed for third between Wyatt Gaggero and Givens.

Just a few circuits into the main event, Givens found speed on the bottom groove of the racetrack and methodically worked his way forward. By the time the field reached the midway point, he had surged past Turner and Williams to take command of the race.

A caution with ten laps to go gave the field one last chance to reel him in, but Givens was flawless on the restart and pulled away to secure his long-awaited first Heartland Modified Tour win. Turner crossed the line second while Williams settled for third. Gaggero and Henry Chambers completed the top five.

“We definitely had some luck on our side tonight. I told Dal (his crew chief) that after the heat race. Then this thing was just good in the A-Main. I can’t thank Dal, Tanner Mullens and his group, and all of my sponsors enough for their help. It feels good to finally get this first win,” Givens said.

While Givens celebrated in victory lane, the points battle took a dramatic twist. Series leader Tad Davis, fresh off a heat race win earlier in the night, was forced to retire early with mechanical issues. The setback allowed Williams to vault into the championship lead, with Givens now second just three points back. Davis sits third, only four points out of the top spot, while the top eight drivers in the standings remain separated by less than 100 points with six races left on the calendar.

Next up, the Heartland Modified Tour returns to action with a Labor Day weekend doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31. The blockbuster weekend will also feature the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League and the POWRi WAR Sprint League, promising fans two nights of thrilling open-wheel action alongside the championship chase for the Heartland Modifieds.
