Mullens Dominates at Lucas Oil Speedway
Tanner Mullens put together a perfect evening, Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, for the USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels stop. He was the Deatherage Opticians fast qualifier with a 17.488 qualifying lap. He won his heat and wired the Wehrs Machine feature, for his second series win of the year.
“We've been working really hard,” said Mullens in Victory Lane. “We got this new car done and made a few laps in it, and decided we better bring it here and race with it, and see if it's good. I just had to make sure to hit my marks a make my laps. I was glad to see the yellows keep coming out and making laps and getting used to this thing. My dad built this motor here and it runs pretty good. I think we've got a good piece.”
Behind Mullens, fellow Kansans Tyler Davis and Wyatt Gaggero had a great race. The duo were neck and neck for much of the race. Davis, builder of the BOM Chassis he was racing, grabbed the runner up position. Continuing on his great start to the year, young Gaggero continues to impress each night out. He filled out the podium in third. Both drivers now have multiple podiums this season.
Trevor Hughes and Tad Davis completed the balance of the top five finishers. 39 cars were in attendance.
Brandon Givens leads the points by 39 markers over Shadren Turner. Tad Davis is only 40 markers out of the lead in third. Jason Pursley sits in fourth and Dakota Dale is in fifth.
Next weekend, the HMT is back in action. Friday night the racing will commence from form the Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas. Saturday, the first of two stops takes place from 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas.
