Salt City Next for HMT Competitors

The USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels has set it’s sights on Salt City Racing at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, KS this weekend. Slated for Friday night, April 25 it will be stop number five for the second year series.
Nearly $3,000 has been added to the purse this weekend courtesy of Ethyn and Shelby Hafner owners of Central Spray Foam & Cement Lifting. The race will pay $2,500 to win and $450 to start.
“When we were working on our marketing for the season, Ethyn approached us and wanted to contribute to a race night somewhere on the schedule,” said Series Director and Partner Erick Chesterman. “Once we had the dates available, he wanted to go to Salt City, looking to increase his business presence in and around the Hutchinson community. We're proud to not only have him racing with us, but also appreciative to see him give back to his fellow competitors. This makes our shows stronger and better for the fans too!”
As an added bonus, Mel Hambelton Ford Racing will be offering any competitor in the Modified division, who has not raced with the Heartland Modified Tour in 2025, a free entry into the event Friday. Those racers will simply need to purchase a pit pass, USRA full or temp. license, fill out the series paperwork and race.
“We are really looking forward to a great event this weekend,” said Salt City Racing General Manager Phil Nightingale. “We are going into our second year and we really want to showcase this place to as many potential competitors as we can. Doing the entry fee promotion, alongside MH Ford Racing will hopefully bring in some additional racecars.”
In previous weeks, gearing up for the race Friday night, Salt City has partnered with the Hutchinson Pizza Ranch for a kids night promotion. Race Cars have been on display, on Tuesday nights and members of the track have been on hand to talk with kids and adults alike.
“The response from the Pizza Ranch events has been wild,” Nightingale further eluded. “We have seen so many families and handed out tons of free kids tickets in anticipation of the event this weekend.”
With wet grounds and an unfavorable forecast looming, Caney Valley Speedway has opted to cancel their portion of the weekend, scheduled for Saturday. Both series and track officials are currently in communication about a reschedule date later in the year. The hope, on both sides, is a date with a drier forecast before the end of the season.
