On the heels of a pair of runner up finishes in USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels events, Shadren Turner turned in his best performance so far, Friday night at Electric City Speedway. Rolling from the outside pole after the Outlaw Kids Racing Tours redraw, Turner got out front and never looked back. The win marks his first with the series.
“The restarts were actually playing in my favor, every time we were catching the lapped cars,” said Turner in Victory lane. “It's not bad to catch a few breaks too. I hit the wall of course and had to tear it up before it was all over. It sure makes it a lot better when you win, when you have stuff to work on!”
Turner rolls in a Skyrocket, with help and support from Jim Chisholm. Kevin Stoa builds the power and Troy Whitt owns the operation, with his family heavily involved in the program.
The damage Turner referenced came on the last lap exiting turn four. He was working to the outside of a car going a lap down and got into the wall.
Behind Turner, Tyler Davis advanced from fifth into the runner up spot. He had several hard fought battles throughout the thirty lap feature, but the Midwest Sheet Metal Cautions flew before he ever could challenge Turner for the point.
Ryan Middaugh passed seven cars to complete the top three. He got behind early in the night and more than made up for it in the feature.
Following the event, Turner moved into the points lead. Ryan Middaugh moved up to second and Randal Schiffelbein Jr. fell back to third. After winning the first two events and the Electric City stop last year, Schiffelbein had high hopes coming into the night. He had a mechanical failure which derailed his evening, before it ever had much of a chance to get started.
Fans and competitors alike were treated to some major facility improvements upon arrival Friday at Electric City. Track owner Mike Parker secured and added to his kids playground area with several new pieces of playground equipment. The most notable addition however, is a brand new, massive video board overlooking turn two.
Saturday racing will commence from Mike and Kyle Johnson's I-35 Speedway in Winston, Missouri. Tyler Hibner and Tanner Mullens won HMT shows there a season ago.
