Heartland Tour Heads to Kansas for Pair of Shows

Sitting idle the last couple of weekend's the USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels will be back at it for the stretch run to the championship. Racing this weekend will commence form a pair of Kansas ovals.

Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas will host the tour on Friday, while 81Speedway in Park City, Kansas hosts the series Saturday. This will be the first visit to Salina, while the 81 stop will be the second for the tour. Back on May 18, Rodney Sanders bested a 54 car field to score the win in the Dalice Franz Memorial.

Salina Speedway has battled rainouts recently and has hindered a big part of the season. However, five of the six times the track was good enough to race, the pit area was just to damp. Owner, Chuck Fairchild is ready for the tour to roll into town.

“We've always had a different show in early September,” said Fairchild going back on his 25 years of ownership. “I wanted to run the Heartland Tour with 81 Speedway the next night. It will be a change at our track, and a chance for our fans to see a different level of car and some big horsepower.”

Friday night the gates open at 5:30 PM with racing to begin at 8 PM. Saturday action moves to the 81 Speedway, where points battles are still being contested. On the weekly USRA Modified side of things Dan Powers, holds a 34 point lead over Paden Phillips.

Track owners JR and Kati Sartain have been huge supporters of the USRA Heartland Modified Tour since it was just an idea. To date they still hold the record car count for any single series event.

“F.O.E Enterprises has been a huge supporter of the Heartland Modified Tour since its inception, and we are excited to have the series back as race season winds down here at 81 Speedway,” commented JR Sartain. “The series has proven to be the best regional modified series in the country, providing some of the best racing I’ve seen to date. Having many of our local weekly racers on the tour makes this one, on September 7th, feel a bit like a Homecoming. We are excited to fill the stands with supporters and fans alike.”

Racing is slated for 7:00 PM. The gates to the facility will open at 5:00PM.

Tyler Wolff currently holds a 100 point lead over Chad Wheeler. Brandon Givens is third in the standings. Fourth and fifth is a tie between Tad Davis and Henry Chambers. Chambers is also leading the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings.
