With the Keyser Manufacturing Larry Phillips Memorial Presented by Schoenfeld Headers and Wehrs Machine just over a week away, series and track officials are pleased to announce the race format and additional sponsorship information. Slated for Sunday, August 18, at Monett Motor Speedway in Monett, Missouri, the event promises to be a showcase in remembrance of one of the greatest racers this country has ever seen.

The standard pill draw and passing points format, with a top six redraw has been scrapped. In it’s place will be Group A and B Time Trials Presented by Pettyjohn Plastering. The overall fast qualifier will net $750. The field will be taken, without invert, directly into the heat races. The total number of heats will depend on the cars in attendance.

From the heats either the winner or winner and second place finishers will move directly into the Deatherage Racing Opticians Pole Dash, where the finish will determine the front of the field for the 40 lap main event. It will pay $750 to win the dash as well. The pole dash is in memory of LP’s buddy Terry Deatherage.

In the feature there is $175 paid for each lap lead, with the final and race winning lap paying an additional $750. The final lap is courtesy of Zac’s Sales and Service. All lap sponsorships are listed below. In total $7575 was raised in lap money to provide additional funding in the feature. The base purse established for the event was $7575 to win and $575 to start.

The USRA B-Mod winner will pocket $1,750, courtesy of Pettyjohn Plastering and Berry Tractor has stepped up to ensure the Midwest Mods can race for $750 to win. Also, Metal Magic has stepped up to help beef up both divisions purses through the field.

Rick Beebe Heating and Air Conditioning and Midwest Sheet Metal are also on board to help ensure the overall the success of the event. Rick Beebe was the first partner to commit and his support allowed the purse to jump to $7575 to win right out of the gate.  Chris Davis, owner of Midwest Sheet Metal will help in another additional payout category currently still in the works.

TP asked me in the beginning if anybody even cared anymore, Jesse Stovall and I sat in his office and emphatically replied, “They not only care, but they care a lot!” This is going to be an event I will never forget. Everybody has been working together with one common goal. Let’s make this absolute best it can possibly be! I can’t say thank you enough.”
